ART FOR COMMUTERS PRODUCED 4 MAJOR PROJECTS IN 2007/08:

Toronto Urban Film Festival

Ideas for a Living City

TRANSIT STORIES
part of the Contact Toronto Photography Festival, May 2007

Transit Stories gathered photographs, through an ongoing open-call process, that told a story about people’s time spent on Toronto’s public transit. For the weeks leading up to the Contact, as well as during the first 3 weeks of the Festival, photographers uploaded their personal transit stories as a series of 5-10 photographs. Transit Stories featured a different photographer each day for the month of May. The work was seen as a 30 second spot, which ran every ten minutes, all day. Over 30 different artists’ photographs were screened on ONESTOP's TTC network as part of this project.

TORONTO URBAN FILM FESTIVAL (TUFF)
September 8 – 14, 2007

image credit: Charuvi Agrawal and Jeff Tran

TUFF featured silent 1-minute films, in all genres, that addressed one of 6 urban themes. A different thematic programme of 10 films was featured each day of the Festival, with films cycling every 10 minutes throughout the day. We screened 60 films out of a total of over 170 submissions, gathered through an open-call process. Programmers John Greyson, Steve Reinke, Heather Keung, Jon Davies, Kim Simon and Jaqueline Nuwame chose work from the submissions, each programming one day, and online audience voting determined programming for the last day of the Festival. Emmy winning filmmaker Jeremy Podeswa chose the top 3 films of the festival. It was free to enter, open to everyone and 10 prizes were awarded at our closing party (including a trip to Jamaica and a Sony HD camcorder). We received almost 6000 audience votes for the 60 films in TUFF.
